The new extractor we just purchased from Dadant Beekeeping Supplies arrived today! It is a stainless steel 2-frame hand-crank honey extractor.
Trevor will be checking Hive #1 tomorrow morning to see if the honey is ready to be harvested. If the honey is completely capped, or sealed with beeswax, the honey is at the perfect humidity level of 18 percent. If not, it will be another week before we can spin it around in the extractor. You never want to harvest uncapped honey because it may ferment when stored. It’s just so much easier to wait until the bees tell you the honey is ready.
